    In this series of posts, I am describing several essential services to which I migrated after years of enjoying “free” sweet convenience, opting for more user-centric privacy focused paid solutions. In the first post I talked about my switch from Google’s Gmail to Fastmail as my preferred email provider.

    In this post, I will discuss how I replaced the internet search giant Google with Kagi Search. After all, who wants to scroll through pages of irrelevant advertisements just to find something relevant to their search prompts?

    In an age where big tech companies dominate our digital life, it’s more important than ever to take back control. In this series of posts, I will describe several essential services to which I migrated after years of enjoying “free” sweet convenience, opting for more user-centric paid solutions. Because as we all know, if something is free, it usually means that we are not using a product but we are the product.

    First service I replaced in this journey of mine was my email provider. As you probably can guess, I said goodbye to one of the well-known email giants—Gmail, owned by Google.

    Hello world!

    This is supposed to be my first entry in my newly set up blog. What should I write here? Who knows?

    Maybe a better question is why? Why have a blog in the age of social media? The only necessary presence now seems to be a Facebook profile and maybe a microblogging account on the site formerly known as Twitter. That should be enough for this internet era, right?

    Events from recent years should have shown us that this isn’t always a wise idea. You never know when one billionaire will try to find his “masculine energy” and another one will go full “nazi mode”, and suddenly you don’t have your safe space anymore.
